But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
But instead they will say, 'As surely as the LORD lives, the one who brought the people of Israel back from the northern country and from all the lands where he had scattered them', I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their ancestors.
God is promising that He will gather His scattered people from all the places where He sent them in punishment and bring them home to the land He promised their ancestors.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of the prophet Jeremiah, the people of Israel were facing exile to Babylon and other lands as a consequence of their persistent idolatry and disobedience to God's laws, which led to the Babylonian invasion around 586 BC. This verse is part of God's promise of future restoration, assuring the Israelites that He would gather them from their scattered locations and return them to the land He had sworn to their ancestors, much like the Exodus from Egypt. It reflects God's unwavering commitment to His covenant despite the nation's unfaithfulness.
