So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
So Ruth stayed close to Boaz's servant girls and continued gathering leftover grain until both the barley harvest and wheat harvest were finished. She lived with her mother-in-law Naomi during this time.
Ruth faithfully worked through the entire harvest season while continuing to care for and live with Naomi.
📚 Historical Context
The barley harvest began in April and the wheat harvest ended in June, so Ruth worked for about two months. During harvest time, it was customary for the poor and foreigners to glean (collect leftover grain) in the fields as a form of social welfare. Ruth's decision to stay with Boaz's workers showed both wisdom for her safety and respect for his protection.
