And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.
I will let it become completely ruined: no one will trim it or work the soil. Instead, weeds and thorns will grow everywhere. I will also command the clouds to stop raining on it.
God is describing how He will abandon His vineyard (representing Israel) to become overgrown and barren because of their unfaithfulness.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of Isaiah's famous 'Song of the Vineyard' parable, where God compares Israel to a vineyard He carefully planted and tended. Despite His care, the vineyard produced wild, bitter grapes instead of good fruit, representing Israel's moral corruption and injustice. Isaiah prophesied this around 740-700 BC when Israel and Judah were turning away from God despite His blessings.
