For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.
This is what the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, says: 'You will be saved by turning back to me and finding rest. Your strength will come from being quiet and trusting in me.' But you refused to listen.
God is telling His people that their salvation and strength come from returning to Him and resting in quiet trust, but they rejected this path.
📚 Historical Context
Isaiah spoke these words during a time when the kingdom of Judah was facing threats from Assyria. Instead of trusting in God's protection, the people were making political alliances with Egypt and relying on military strength. God was calling them to abandon these worldly strategies and return to depending on Him alone.
