And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
Isaac said to Jacob, 'Come closer, please, so I can touch you, my son, to find out if you really are my son Esau or not.'
Isaac is suspicious that the person claiming to be Esau might actually be Jacob, so he wants to physically examine him to be sure.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Genesis, Isaac, who is old and nearly blind, intends to give his special blessing to his firstborn son, Esau, as was the custom in ancient patriarchal families. However, Jacob, with the help of his mother Rebekah, disguises himself as Esau to deceive Isaac and claim the blessing for himself. This moment highlights Isaac's growing suspicion as he tests Jacob's identity through touch.
