✦ MADE SIMPLE

Isaac dug out again the water wells that had been dug during his father Abraham's lifetime. The Philistines had filled them in with dirt after Abraham died. Isaac gave these wells the same names that his father had given them.

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

Isaac restored the wells his father Abraham had dug, which enemies had destroyed, and honored his father by keeping the same names for them.

📚 Historical Context

In the ancient Near East, water wells were extremely valuable and often sources of conflict between different groups. The Philistines filled in Abraham's wells as a way to drive out his family and claim the land for themselves. Re-digging wells was both a practical necessity for survival and a symbolic act of reclaiming one's inheritance and territory.
