✦ MADE SIMPLE

You must stay and help your fellow Israelites until the LORD has given them rest, just as He has given you rest, and until they too have taken control of the land that the LORD your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan River. Only then can each of you return to the land I have already given you.

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

Moses is telling the tribes who already received their land that they must help their brothers conquer their territory before returning home to enjoy their own inheritance.

📚 Historical Context

Moses was speaking to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh, who had requested to settle on the east side of the Jordan River where the land was good for their livestock. Though Moses granted their request, he required them to cross over and fight alongside their fellow Israelites to help conquer the Promised Land west of the Jordan before they could return to their families and property.
