And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.
And I gave Joshua this command at that time: 'You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD your God did to these two kings. The LORD will do the same thing to all the kingdoms you will enter.'
Moses is encouraging Joshua by reminding him that God's past victories guarantee He will keep giving them victory over their enemies in the future.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses is delivering his farewell addresses to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land after their wilderness wanderings. He is specifically encouraging Joshua, his appointed successor, by reminding him of God's recent victories over the kings Sihon and Og, which Joshua had witnessed firsthand during the conquest of the lands east of the Jordan River. This context underscores Moses' role as a leader passing on faith and assurance in God's ongoing protection for future battles.
