Both male and female shall ye put out, without the camp shall ye put them; that they defile not their camps, in the midst whereof I dwell.
You must send away both men and women who are unclean, putting them outside the camp so they don't make the camp impure, since I live among you there.
God is instructing the Israelites to remove ritually unclean people from the camp to maintain the holiness of the place where He dwells among them.
📚 Historical Context
This command was given during Israel's wilderness wanderings after leaving Egypt, when they lived in a organized camp around the tabernacle. The previous verses in Numbers 5 describe various forms of ritual uncleanness, including skin diseases, bodily discharges, and contact with dead bodies. God's presence dwelling in the tabernacle at the center of the camp required maintaining ceremonial purity throughout the community.
