According to the number of years after the jubile thou shalt buy of thy neighbour, and according unto the number of years of the fruits he shall sell unto thee:
When you buy land from your neighbor, the price should be based on how many years are left until the next Jubilee year. And when your neighbor sells to you, he should set the price based on how many years of crops the land will produce.
This verse teaches that land prices should be fair, calculated based on how much productive time remains before the land returns to its original owner in the Jubilee year.
📚 Historical Context
In ancient Israel, the Year of Jubilee was observed every 50 years as a sacred time when land was returned to its original families, debts were canceled, and economic equality was restored to prevent perpetual poverty. This verse from Leviticus instructs that when buying or selling land, the price should be calculated based on the number of productive years left until the next Jubilee, ensuring fair dealings that reflected God's laws for justice and stewardship. It was part of a broader system in the Mosaic Law designed to protect the vulnerable and maintain community harmony under God's provision.
