If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.
If you will come back, O Israel, says the LORD, come back to me. And if you will get rid of the disgusting things that offend me, then you won't have to be sent away.
God is offering Israel a chance to return to Him - if they come back and remove the sinful practices that displease Him, they can stay in their homeland instead of being exiled.
📚 Historical Context
This verse comes during a time when the kingdom of Judah was practicing idolatry and had turned away from God. Jeremiah was prophesying before the Babylonian exile, warning that judgment was coming but also offering hope for restoration if the people would repent and return to faithful worship of God alone.
