And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
And you will make promises saying 'As surely as the LORD lives,' and you'll do this with truth, justice, and righteousness. When this happens, the nations will find their blessing in him and will boast about him with pride.
God is saying that when people make sincere promises in His name with honesty and righteousness, all nations will be blessed through Him and will find their reason to celebrate in Him.
📚 Historical Context
Jeremiah was a prophet in ancient Judah during a time of widespread idolatry and moral decay, warning the people of impending judgment from the Babylonian empire if they did not return to God. In this verse, he calls for the people to make oaths in God's name with complete honesty, justice, and righteousness, promising that such faithfulness would make Israel a source of blessing to other nations. This reflects the broader biblical theme of God's covenant with Israel, where their obedience was meant to draw all peoples to glorify Him.
