Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
Now go and speak to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem. Tell them this is what the LORD says: 'Look, I am preparing disaster for you and making plans against you. Turn away now, each one of you, from your evil ways, and make your actions and behavior good.'
God is warning His people that He's planning judgment against them, but He's giving them a chance to change their ways and avoid the coming disaster.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of the prophet Jeremiah in the 7th-6th centuries BC, Judah was facing imminent judgment from God due to their persistent idolatry and disobedience, as the nation was on the brink of Babylonian exile. God instructed Jeremiah to deliver a warning to the people of Judah and Jerusalem, using the metaphor of a potter reshaping clay from the previous verses to illustrate His sovereign control over their fate. This message emphasized that God could still relent if they turned from their evil ways.
