If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
But if that nation does what is wrong in my eyes and doesn't listen to my voice, then I will change my mind about the good things I promised to do for them.
God is saying that if a nation turns away from Him and disobeys, He will withdraw the blessings He had planned to give them.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Jeremiah, the prophet was speaking to the people of Judah during the 7th-6th century BC, a time when the nation faced threats from the Babylonian empire due to their persistent idolatry and disobedience to God. God used the metaphor of a potter reshaping clay to illustrate His sovereignty over nations, showing that He could alter His plans based on human actions. Specifically, in Jeremiah 18:10, this verse highlights God's conditional promises, warning that if a nation turned to evil and ignored His commands, He would revoke the benefits He had intended.
