I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.
I have crushed the grapes in the winepress by myself; none of my people were there to help me. I will crush my enemies in my anger and trample them in my fury; their blood will splash on my clothes, and I will stain all my garments.
God is declaring that He alone will carry out judgment against His enemies, crushing them like grapes in a winepress until their blood stains His clothing.
📚 Historical Context
This passage is part of Isaiah's prophecy about God's judgment on Edom and other nations that opposed Israel. The imagery of treading grapes in a winepress was a familiar picture to ancient audiences, as it was a common method of making wine. Isaiah is using this metaphor to describe God's coming judgment as complete and solitary—something only He can and will accomplish.
