Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews.
Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, 'Look, I have given Esther all of Haman's property, and they have executed him by hanging because he plotted to harm the Jews.'
The king is telling Esther and Mordecai that he has already punished Haman with death and given his wealth to Esther because Haman tried to destroy the Jewish people.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative of Esther, set in the Persian Empire during the reign of King Ahasuerus, the Jews faced a deadly plot orchestrated by Haman, a high official who sought to annihilate them due to his personal grudge against Mordecai. Queen Esther, a Jewish woman hidden in the royal court, bravely revealed her identity and exposed Haman's scheme, leading to his execution on the gallows he had prepared. This verse shows the king publicly acknowledging the reversal of events, granting Haman's confiscated property to Esther as a form of justice for the intended harm against her people.
