So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.
So we will attack him wherever we find him, and we will fall on him like dew covers the ground completely. Not one of his men will be left alive, not even one.
The writer is recording Hushai's deceptive military advice, describing a plan to completely overwhelm David's forces without leaving any survivors.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative of 2 Samuel, this verse is part of Ahithophel's counsel to Absalom during his rebellion against his father, King David, as Absalom sought to seize the throne of Israel. Ahithophel, who had been David's trusted advisor, proposed a swift and overwhelming attack on David and his forces, using the image of dew falling on the ground to convey an inescapable and total assault. This reflects the intense political intrigue and familial betrayals common in ancient Israelite history, where loyalty could shift amid civil wars.
