Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith the LORD; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the LORD.
The LORD says, 'I saw the blood of Naboth and his sons spilled yesterday, and I will pay you back for it right here on this same piece of land.' So now take him and throw his body onto this plot of ground, just as the LORD said would happen.
God is fulfilling His promise to punish King Ahab's family for murdering Naboth and stealing his vineyard by having Ahab's son killed on that very same land.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, King Ahab of Israel coveted Naboth's vineyard and, with the help of his wife Jezebel, had Naboth falsely accused and killed to seize it. God, through the prophet Elijah, declared that Ahab's family would face severe punishment for this injustice. This verse shows the fulfillment of that divine judgment when Jehu is commanded to carry out retribution on the very plot of land where the crime occurred.
