📚 Historical Context
In the historical narrative of 2 Kings, Ahaziah was the king of Judah who had allied himself with the wicked King Joram of Israel, both of whom were part of a dynasty under God's judgment for idolatry and corruption. Jehu, anointed by the prophet Elisha as God's instrument of retribution, pursued and killed Ahaziah during a rebellion against the house of Ahab, fulfilling divine prophecies about the downfall of unfaithful rulers. This event highlights the turbulent political landscape of the divided kingdoms, where God's sovereignty often manifested through conflict and conquest.
