Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the LORD laid this burden upon him;
Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, 'Pick him up and throw his body into the field that belonged to Naboth from Jezreel. Remember when you and I rode together behind King Ahab, his father? The LORD pronounced this judgment on him then.'
Jehu is telling his captain to throw King Joram's body into Naboth's field, reminding him that God had promised this judgment would come upon Ahab's family.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, King Ahab of Israel wrongfully seized the vineyard of Naboth by arranging his death through his wife Jezebel, which led God to pronounce judgment on Ahab and his family via the prophet Elijah. This judgment included the promise that dogs would lick up Ahab's blood in the very place where Naboth was killed. Years later, in 2 Kings 9, Jehu is carrying out this divine judgment by ordering the body of Ahab's son to be thrown into Naboth's field, fulfilling God's earlier prophecy.
