Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.
Therefore, this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: He will not enter this city or shoot a single arrow at it. He won't approach it with his shield or build up dirt ramps to attack its walls.
God is promising that the Assyrian king will not be able to attack or conquer Jerusalem - not even one arrow will be shot at the city.
📚 Historical Context
This prophecy came through Isaiah during King Hezekiah's reign when the mighty Assyrian army under Sennacherib had surrounded Jerusalem and was threatening to destroy it. The Assyrians had already conquered most of Judah and were known for their brutal siege warfare, including building earthen ramps against city walls to breach them. This divine promise came as encouragement to Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem who were facing seemingly impossible odds.
