All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses.
The whole land is going to be flattened out like a huge plain, stretching from Geba all the way down to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. But Jerusalem? She's getting elevated and rebuilt right where she belongs, from Benjamin's gate to the first gate, to the corner gate, and from Hananeel's tower all the way to the king's winepresses.
Everything gets leveled except Jerusalem, she gets lifted up and fully restored.
📚 Historical Context
Zechariah was a prophet who ministered to the Jewish people after their return from Babylonian exile around 520 BC, offering visions of God's future restoration for Jerusalem. In this verse, he describes a transformed landscape where the land from Geba in the north to Rimmon in the south becomes a plain, symbolizing divine rebuilding and security for the city. This prophecy was intended to inspire hope and faithfulness among a discouraged community rebuilding their homeland.
