And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
I'm going to take a third of them through some serious fire, not to destroy them, but to refine them like precious metals. Silver and gold have to go through intense heat to become pure, and that's what I'm doing with them. When they're going through it, they'll call out to me, and I'll actually listen. I'll look at them and say 'These are my people,' and they'll finally say back 'The Lord is my God.'
Sometimes God uses the hardest seasons to make us into who we're supposed to be.
📚 Historical Context
Zechariah was a prophet who ministered to the Jewish people after their return from Babylonian exile around 520 BC, encouraging them to rebuild the temple and renew their covenant with God. In this verse, he describes God's process of refining a remnant of His people through trials, comparing it to the purification of silver and gold in a furnace, which symbolizes spiritual cleansing and testing. This prophecy points to a future restoration where the faithful will call on God, and He will respond, affirming their relationship.
