And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
And this is what's going to happen across the whole land, says the LORD: two-thirds of the people will be cut down and die, but one-third will survive.
Sometimes the hardest seasons leave only a remnant standing, but that remnant matters.
📚 Historical Context
Zechariah was a prophet who lived around 520 BC, ministering to the Jewish people who had returned from Babylonian exile and were rebuilding their temple. In this verse, he delivers a prophecy of divine judgment and purification, where two-thirds of the people would be destroyed and one-third preserved, symbolizing God's refining process through hardship. This reflects the biblical theme of God's discipline leading to restoration for a faithful remnant.
