And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus looked at them and said, 'I'm telling you the truth, you guys who've been following me? When everything gets made new and I take my place on the throne, you're going to be sitting on twelve thrones too, leading the twelve tribes of Israel.'
Following Jesus now means getting promoted to leadership later.
📚 Historical Context
In the historical context, Jesus was speaking to his disciples after Peter asked about the rewards for following him, amid discussions on wealth, sacrifice, and eternal life in first-century Judea. This promise highlighted the Jewish hope for a messianic kingdom where God would restore Israel, emphasizing the disciples' future roles as judges. It fits into the broader biblical narrative of God's plan for renewal and judgment at the end of times.
