📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative of Luke's Gospel, Jesus is visiting the home of Martha and her sister Mary, who were known for their hospitality in ancient Jewish culture. Martha becomes overwhelmed with the tasks of serving and preparing for guests, which reflected the societal expectations for women to manage household duties during that time. She then approaches Jesus to complain about Mary sitting and listening to his teachings instead of helping.
