In Luke 10, Jesus is sending out seventy-two disciples to preach the kingdom of God and is pronouncing judgment on cities in Galilee that have witnessed his miracles but rejected his message. Tyre and Sidon were ancient Phoenician port cities, often condemned in the Old Testament for their idolatry, pride, and exploitation, as described in books like Isaiah and Ezekiel. Jesus uses this comparison to emphasize that these historically wicked cities will face less severe judgment than the unrepentant Galilean towns because the latter had direct exposure to his divine works.
