As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.
Just like God completely destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah and all the cities around them, says the Lord, this place will be so devastated that no one will live there anymore. Not a single person will call it home.
Some destruction is so complete that there's no coming back from it.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Jeremiah, written during the 6th century BC amid the Babylonian exile, the prophet is delivering God's judgment against Babylon, comparing its impending destruction to the earlier annihilation of Sodom and Gomorrah. Sodom and Gomorrah were ancient cities near the Dead Sea, destroyed by divine fire as described in Genesis 19, due to their inhabitants' grave sins like immorality and rebellion against God. This prophecy underscores the theme of God's unyielding justice toward nations that persistently defy Him.
