Jeremiah 42:18

Made Simple — Modern English Translation

Translated by Verse Made Simple Editorial
KJV ORIGINAL
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

✦ MADE SIMPLE

This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: You saw how my anger completely destroyed Jerusalem and its people. Well, if you go to Egypt, that same fury is coming for you. You'll become a living example of what happens when you disobey — people will be shocked by what becomes of you, they'll use your story as a warning, and you'll never see your homeland again.

⚡ THE BOTTOM LINE

God's warning hits different when you've already seen what his anger can do.
