📚 Historical Context
In the historical context of Jeremiah 38:11, the prophet Jeremiah was imprisoned in a cistern by Judean officials who opposed his warnings about the impending Babylonian invasion, as Judah faced political turmoil and the threat of exile. Ebedmelech, an Ethiopian court official serving under King Zedekiah, took initiative to rescue Jeremiah by gathering materials from the palace to pull him out of the dungeon. This event reflects the social and religious divisions in Jerusalem during the late 7th century BC, as foreign officials like Ebedmelech played roles in the kingdom's internal affairs.
