And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the LORD; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.
The entire valley where dead bodies and ashes lie, and all the fields reaching to the Kidron stream and to the corner of the Horse Gate on the east side, will be set apart as holy to the LORD. It will never be torn down or destroyed again forever.
God is promising that even the places associated with death and destruction around Jerusalem will become holy and permanently protected by Him.
📚 Historical Context
Jeremiah prophesied during the time of Judah's impending exile to Babylon in the 6th century BC, a period marked by idolatry, moral decay, and divine judgment. The valley of dead bodies and ashes likely refers to the Hinnom Valley, a site historically associated with pagan sacrifices and defilement, symbolizing areas of spiritual pollution in Jerusalem. This verse is part of God's promise of ultimate restoration, declaring that these defiled places would become holy and endure forever as a sign of His covenant faithfulness.
