For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
This is what the LORD says: After seventy years are completed in Babylon, I will come to you and keep my good promise to you by bringing you back to this place.
God is promising that after 70 years of exile in Babylon, He will fulfill His promise and bring His people back home.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of a letter Jeremiah sent to the Jewish exiles in Babylon around 597-586 BC, during the Babylonian conquest of Judah, when many Israelites were forcibly removed from their homeland as punishment for their unfaithfulness to God. It reflects God's promise through Jeremiah that the exile would last seventy years, based on earlier prophecies, as a way to discipline and ultimately restore His people. This message was given to encourage the exiles to settle in Babylon, build lives there, and trust in God's timing for their return.
