And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.
And the people who listen to these false prophets will be thrown out dead in the streets of Jerusalem because of hunger and war. No one will be left to bury them - not them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters. I will bring the consequences of their evil actions back on them.
God is warning that both false prophets and those who follow them will face severe consequences for turning away from Him.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of the prophet Jeremiah in the 7th-6th century BC, the Kingdom of Judah was facing imminent invasion by the Babylonian Empire due to widespread idolatry, social injustice, and disobedience to God's covenant. False prophets were misleading the people with messages of peace and security, while Jeremiah faithfully delivered God's warnings of judgment through famine, war, and exile.
