And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:
The survivors from the nation of Judah who have escaped will put down deep roots and produce good fruit that grows upward.
God is promising that the people of Judah who survive their troubles will become strong again and flourish like a healthy plant.
📚 Historical Context
This verse comes during the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem around 701 BC, when King Hezekiah sought God's help against the overwhelming enemy forces. God gave this prophecy through Isaiah to assure the people that despite the devastation, a remnant would survive and rebuild. The agricultural metaphor would have been particularly meaningful to an ancient people whose survival depended on successful crops.
