And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay upon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps: and in battles of shaking will he fight with it.
And everywhere the rod of punishment goes, which the LORD will use against him, there will be the sound of tambourines and harps playing. The LORD will fight against him with fierce, shaking battles.
This verse is saying that when God brings judgment and punishment, it will be accompanied by celebration and fierce warfare from the LORD himself.
📚 Historical Context
This verse comes from Isaiah's prophecy about God's judgment on Assyria, the powerful empire that had been threatening and oppressing Israel. The 'grounded staff' refers to God's rod of punishment that would strike down the Assyrian king and his army. The tambourines and harps suggest that Israel would celebrate while God defeated their oppressor.
