And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
And the LORD said, 'Look, the people are united, and they all speak the same language. This is what they have started to do, and now nothing will stop them from accomplishing whatever they set their minds to do.'
God is observing that when people are completely united in purpose and communication, they become incredibly powerful and can achieve almost anything they imagine.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical account of the Tower of Babel, after the Great Flood, humanity had one common language and settled in the plain of Shinar, where they decided to build a city and a massive tower to make a name for themselves and prevent scattering across the earth. This act of unified effort reflected human pride and defiance against God's earlier command to fill and subdue the world. God recognized that their shared language and cooperation made them capable of achieving anything they imagined, which prompted His intervention to confuse their language and scatter them.
