And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
Pharaoh replied, 'Who is the LORD that I should listen to him and let Israel go? I don't know this LORD, and I will not let Israel go.'
Pharaoh arrogantly refuses to acknowledge God's authority and defiantly rejects Moses' demand to free the Israelites.
📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Exodus, the Israelites had been enslaved in Egypt for centuries, and God called Moses to lead them to freedom. Moses and his brother Aaron approached Pharaoh to demand that he release the Israelites so they could worship God in the wilderness, as part of God's plan to deliver His people. Pharaoh's defiant response highlighted the cultural and political tensions of the time, where Egyptian pharaohs were seen as divine rulers who would not easily yield to an unknown deity.
