📚 Historical Context

This command was given to Moses on Mount Sinai as part of renewing the covenant after the Israelites had made and worshiped the golden calf. God was establishing clear boundaries to keep His people from falling back into the idol worship they had witnessed in Egypt and would encounter in the Promised Land.
