And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.
They answered, 'An Egyptian man rescued us from the shepherds who were bothering us. He also drew plenty of water for us and gave our flock a drink.'
The women are telling their father how Moses (who they thought was Egyptian) protected them from hostile shepherds and helped them water their animals.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Exodus, Moses had fled from Egypt to Midian after killing an Egyptian taskmaster, seeking refuge as a fugitive. There, he encountered the seven daughters of Reuel, the priest of Midian, who were being harassed by shepherds while trying to water their flock at a well. The daughters described Moses as an Egyptian due to his appearance and clothing, even though he was an Israelite raised in Egypt.
