📚 Historical Context

In the Persian Empire under King Ahasuerus, a decree had been issued by the king's advisor Haman to exterminate the Jewish people as an act of revenge against Mordecai, who refused to bow to him. Mordecai, a Jewish official and Esther's cousin, obtained a copy of this decree and sent it to Esther, who was now the queen, to inform her of the impending danger. He urged her to use her unique position to approach the king and plead for the lives of her fellow Jews.
