This prophecy was given during the final decades before Babylon conquered Jerusalem in 586 BC. Jeremiah was warning the people of Judah that their persistent disobedience and idol worship would result in foreign invaders taking everything they valued. The Babylonians would indeed plunder the temple treasures and carry away the wealth of the nation.
