This verse is part of God's judgment against Judah for their persistent idolatry and unfaithfulness to their covenant with Him. The imagery of exposing someone's nakedness was a common ancient Near Eastern metaphor for bringing shame and humiliation upon nations or peoples who had been unfaithful. Jeremiah was prophesying during the final years before Jerusalem's destruction by Babylon in 586 BC.
