Then shall ye know that I am the LORD, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they did offer sweet savour to all their idols.
During the 6th century BC, the prophet Ezekiel ministered to the exiled people of Judah in Babylon, warning them of God's judgment for their widespread idolatry and covenant unfaithfulness. This verse describes how God would bring destruction upon the very sites of their pagan worship, such as high hills, mountain tops, and under sacred trees, to demonstrate His sovereignty. Through this devastation, the survivors would finally acknowledge that the Lord alone is God.
