But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.
In the book of Numbers, the first census of the Israelites was conducted by Moses and Aaron at Mount Sinai shortly after their exodus from Egypt, to count the men of fighting age as they prepared for the journey. However, due to the people's lack of faith and rebellion against God, He decreed that none from that generation, except Joshua and Caleb, would enter the Promised Land. By the time of the second census in Numbers 26, which occurred on the plains of Moab just before entering Canaan, almost all from the original count had died in the wilderness as part of God's judgment.
