Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the inhabitants thereof, and even make this city as Tophet:

Tophet was a place in the Valley of Hinnom outside Jerusalem where children were sacrificed to foreign gods like Molech, making it a symbol of extreme wickedness and divine judgment. Jeremiah was prophesying during the final years before Babylon would destroy Jerusalem in 586 BC. The prophet was warning that Jerusalem's unfaithfulness and idol worship would result in the city becoming as defiled and cursed as this notorious place of child sacrifice.
