In the time of the Exodus, the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt, and Pharaoh ordered the Hebrew midwives to kill newborn boys to control the growing population. The midwives, fearing God more than Pharaoh, refused to obey and saved the babies, which led to God's favor upon them. As a result, the Israelite people continued to multiply and become strong despite the oppression.
