Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession:
Go up into the Abarim mountain range, to Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab across from Jericho. From there, look out over the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel as their own land.
God is telling Moses to climb Mount Nebo so he can see the Promised Land that God is giving to the Israelites, even though Moses won't be able to enter it himself.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, Moses had led the Israelites through the wilderness for forty years after their exodus from Egypt, as they prepared to enter the Promised Land. God instructed Moses to climb Mount Nebo in the Abarim range, located in Moab opposite Jericho, as a consequence of his earlier disobedience at Meribah, where he struck a rock instead of speaking to it as commanded. This event marked the end of Moses' leadership, allowing him to see the land of Canaan that God promised to the Israelites but forbidding him from entering it.
