Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions' den. But as they did it, the king looked at Daniel and said, 'Your God, the one you never stop serving, he's going to save you.'
Even when the king had to follow through on his threat, he believed Daniel's God was stronger than lions.
📚 Historical Context
Daniel was a Jewish exile serving in the Babylonian and Persian empires, known for his unwavering faith and integrity in a foreign land. His enemies, jealous of his position under King Darius, tricked the king into signing a decree that forbade prayer to any god except the king, leading to Daniel's arrest when he continued to pray to his God. As a result, the king reluctantly ordered Daniel to be thrown into the lions' den, while expressing hope that Daniel's God would rescue him.
