In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
When that day comes, I'm going to rebuild David's kingdom that fell apart. I'll patch up all the broken places, restore what's been destroyed, and make it strong like it used to be in the good old days.
God's saying he'll take what's broken and rebuild it better than before.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Amos, the prophet was speaking to the people of Israel during the 8th century BC, a time of economic prosperity but moral and spiritual decline marked by social injustice and idolatry, which led to God's impending judgment. This verse refers to the "tabernacle of David" as a symbol of the once-glorious kingdom established by King David, which had fallen into ruin due to division after Solomon's reign and the ongoing sins of the nation. It promises a future restoration by God, pointing toward a renewed era of divine favor and unity for His people.
