📚 Historical Context

The book of Obadiah was written during the 6th century BC, likely after the Babylonian conquest of Judah, when the Edomites had allied with invaders and betrayed their relatives, the Israelites. This verse prophesies the restoration of the exiled Israelites, promising that they would return and reclaim lands once occupied by others, such as the Canaanites up to Zarephath, and the southern regions. It reflects God's justice in reversing the oppression faced by His people during their captivity.
